MASN’s Gary Thorne Named Play-by-Play Voice for Major League Baseball’s International Broadcast of the ALCS and World Series

Gary Thorne, the play-by-play voice of the Baltimore Orioles on MASN, will also provide play-by-play for Major League Baseball’s international broadcasts of the American League Championship Series (ALCS) and World Series this fall.

Beginning on Friday, Thorne will team up with Cy Young Award-winner Rick Sutcliffe to bring October baseball to fans in 219 countries and territories, as well as to the more than one million United States and Canadian Armed Forces personnel stationed around the world.

An award-winning broadcaster, Thorne has provided play-by-play coverage of MLB for 25 years, including seven World Series and 13 All-Star games. With MASN since 2007, Thorne brings Orioles games into the homes of millions of families throughout MASN’s seven-state territory all season long. One of the most recognizable voices in sports broadcasting, Thorne has covered Major League Baseball, the National Hockey League, the Olympics, NCAA basketball, football and hockey during his impressive 40-year broadcasting career.

Major League Baseball International (MLBI) provides a world feed broadcast in 20 languages, in both HD and standard definition, for broadcast partners around the world. The broadcasts also allow American and Canadian troops overseas to enjoy all the excitement of postseason baseball.

“I am honored to help bring our national past time to the world where the popularity of the game continues to grow,” said Thorne, who served as an Army JAG officer. “It is especially humbling to provide a voice to the games for service men and women around the world.”

The Texas Rangers embark on the first ALCS in their history beginning on Friday, October 15 against the defending World Champion New York Yankees. The World Series is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, October 27.

With every available Orioles game live and in high definition, O’s Xtra before and after every game and an All Star talent team, MASN provides maximum access to the Baltimore Orioles. MASN is currently carried on 23 cable and satellite providers throughout a seven-state region.

Yankees-Rangers Delivers Largest LCS Game 1 TV Audience in Cable History

More than 8 million viewers tuned into TBS last night for Game 1 of the ALCS between the Yankees and Rangers, the largest audience ever for an LCS Game 1 in cable history.

The 8.11 million viewers for last night’s game marks a +19% increase over the 2009 NLCS Game 1 on TBS. The game drew the second-largest audience for any LCS Game 1 (on cable or broadcast) since TBS and FOX began sharing MLB Postseason coverage in 2007.

EPIX Announces Two Original Programs Showcasing Louis C.K. And Lewis Black

EPIX has announced that it will bring two original programming on August 1 and September 18. EPIX turns to big name comics Louis C.K. and Lewis Black in expanding original programming on the multiplatform service launched by Paramount, MGM and Lionsgate.

The award-winning comedian and Daily Show contributor Lewis Black returns to EPIX on August 1 with Basic Black. In Basic Black, documentary filmmakers follow the performer on his sold-out tour and first EPIX comedy special, Stark Raving Black.

Concert footage is weaved with that of the comedian early in his career, reflections on his childhood, parents and the slow climb to fame where he says he had to “lick every rung on the ladder.” Known for his outrage with the entire social and political spectrum, Black gives the audience an in-depth look at his journey as a performer.

EPIX will turn to Louis C.K., writer, director, editor and star of the critically acclaimed FX series Louie on September, for the television premiere of the unique and dynamic live stand-up concert film Louis C.K.: Hilarious. Directed by Louis, his exploration of life after 40 destroys politically correct images of modern life with thoughts we have all had…but would rarely admit to.

The film will also have a limited independent theatrical release prior to premiering on EPIX. Filmed as part of his international theater tour, Louis C.K.: Hilarious premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January as the first stand-up concert film presented at Sundance. Variety raved, “Standup comedy cinema has a new star in Louis C.K.: Hilarious.” Louis’ new theater tour, “Louis C.K.: Word,” will kick off on September 17 in San Francisco.

DirecTV Launches Crime and Investigation Network in High-Definition

DirecTV has launched Crime and Investigation Network in high-definition. The network owned by A&E Networks is available in DirecTV HD Extra Pack. But DirecTV website has not included this channel in hd programming package and it’s clear that the satcaster is testing to launch this channel very soon. DirecTV is gearing up to launch many new HD channels which are eagerly expected by its customers in weeks to come. Recently DirecTV has added Fox News channel in HD in its programming line-up.

Canby Telcom Launches New HD Channels in Central Oregon

Platforma HD has entered a contract with Eutelsat Communications to deliver new high-definition content in parts of Russia. Platforma HD will utilize Eutelsat Communications EUROBIRD 9 satellite to deliver HD content and the new platform was already tested during Beijing Olympics with the Eurosport HD channel. HBO has announced that Cinemax will become the first and only 24 hour HD channel from September 1, 2008.
