H.Samuel Launches Adidas and Lacoste Watch Brands

H.Samuel has announced the expansion of its watch collection in-store and online with the introduction of Lacoste and Adidas watches for the first time.

The Adidas collection features coloured digital watches and stone set ladies’ watches in black and white designs. Some of the Adidas styles feature gold and rose gold bracelet style straps. Within the collection there is also a selection of kids’ coloured strap watches.

The Lacoste range at H.Samuel includes brightly coloured designs incorporating a colour palette of green, yellow, white, pink and purple. The Goa watch designs feature round dials and neon colours and the Socoa styles have rectangular dials and leather straps of pink, green and black.

Adidas was founded in Germany back in 1948 by brothers Adolf and Rudolf Dassler. Originally famed for sports footwear, Adidas now produce bags, eyewear, clothing and watches. It’s now the largest sportswear manufacturer in Europe and second largest in the world. More recently Adidas unveiled its latest global campaign earlier this year, showcasing the brand’s presence into different sports cultures and lifestyles fusing the worlds of sport, music and fashion. September is National Childhood Obesity Awareness Month, reminding Americans that instilling physical activity and healthy eating habits among our nation’s youth is more important than ever before.

Demonstrating their commitment to making health and wellness a nationwide priority, the National Dairy Council (NDC), the National Football League (NFL) and Carla Hall, Top Chef alum and co-host of ABC’s upcoming lifestyle series, The Chew, are jump starting Fuel Up to Play 60 and the new school year by motivating students to take charge of their well-being.

“It is important to go beyond the message of ‘eat healthier’ and ‘be active,’” said Jean Ragalie, RD, President of the National Dairy Council. “We need to provide today’s youth with opportunities to own their health decisions and access fun ways to live a healthy lifestyle – Fuel Up to Play 60 does just that, connecting students with tangible ways to take a stand against childhood obesity.”

Fuel Up to Play 60 is an in-school nutrition and physical activity program launched by the NDC and the NFL, in collaboration with the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). Fuel Up to Play 60 spokesperson and celebrity chef Carla Hall recognizes the importance of healthy eating and physical activity for today’s youth. “Fresh, healthy food and daily exercise has always been part of my philosophy. As a chef I have the responsibility to share the knowledge that nutrient-rich foods, like low-fat and fat-free dairy, fruits, vegetables and whole grains, can be delicious, kid-friendly and easily incorporated into school lunches.”

To ensure busy parents make their children healthy lunches and encourage exercise throughout the school week, Fuel Up to Play 60 and Chef Carla Hall offer the following tips.

Don’t Get Hung Up: Don’t allow yourself to be frustrated by trying to create the perfect meal for your kids – as long as you work towards balance, it’s all good! Even the occasional chocolate chip cookie works…especially when served with milk!

The Fuel Up to Play 60 program empowers youth to take action for their own health by providing an opportunity to implement long-term, positive changes for themselves and their schools. For example, students are working directly with their schools to have breakfast offered in new and fun ways or to start walking clubs. Schools also have access to resources they need to implement the program, which include in-school collateral materials and planning tools and Funds for Fuel Up to Play 60, which support healthy changes. Together with the involvement of multiple supporting health and nutrition organizations – Action for Healthy Kids, American Academy of Family Physicians, American Academy of Pediatrics, American Dietetic Association, National Hispanic Medical Association, National Medical Association and School Nutrition Association – the program reaches more than 70,000 schools across the country and plans to further its progress by expanding its reach and impact in the years to come.

“The National Football League is strongly committed to helping the next generation of youth achieve healthier lifestyles. Entering its fifth year, our NFL PLAY 60 campaign encourages kids to get active and play 60 minutes a day. We are pleased that Fuel Up to Play 60 extends that message to include healthy eating. FIA Moves 2012 Bahrain Grand Prix to Earlier in Year

The FIA World Motor Sports Council voted yesterday to approve shifting Bahrain’s 2012 Grand Prix from its originally scheduled date in October to earlier in the year. Under the current schedule, the race will be held April 22, a sign of confidence in the country’s improving stability and its ability to host the top tier race.

CEO of the Bahrain International Circuit (BIC) Sheikh Salman bin Isa Al Khalifa welcomed the decision and confirmed that the country and the BIC will be prepared for the date shift. Sheikh Salman also thanked the government and the Bahraini people for their efforts in getting the country’s Grand Prix race back on the schedule.

The updated Grand Prix calendar swapped Bahrain’s race with the Indian Grand Prix, which will now be held October 28.

Columbia College Adds Five New Sports

Starting in the fall of 2012, Columbia College will double its NAIA sports teams adding women’s soccer, men’s and women’s cross country and men’s and women’s golf.

These teams join the college’s highly successful men’s soccer, men’s and women’s basketball and women’s softball and volleyball teams.

“This is an exciting time for Cougar athletics,” said Bob Burchard, director of Athletics and head men’s basketball coach. “The steady growth of the college combined with continued support from the community made this an easy decision. We can’t wait to carry on our winning tradition with five new teams.”

Women’s soccer and the cross country teams will join the fall lineup while the golf teams will play in the spring — golf is the first men’s spring sport offered at the college. The soccer team will use existing facilities on campus while the golf and cross country teams will hold competitions at local golf courses. The college is currently filling necessary coaching positions and plans to aggressively recruit student-athletes throughout the year.

Columbia College is part of the American Midwest Conference (AMC). In the past 18 years, the Cougars have been to 55 NAIA National Championship Tournaments, winning three national titles and placing in the top five on 16 occasions.

Columbia College, a private, nonprofit institution founded in 1851 in Columbia, Mo., educates more than 29,000 students each year and has more than 67,000 alumni worldwide.

ESPN RISE Games Champion Gridiron Kings 2011 Roster Announced

Sixty-four of the nation’s top high school football players will compete in the third annual Champion Gridiron Kings event, a series of competitions featuring the best players in the game’s seven skill positions — quarterback, running back, tight end, wide receiver, linebacker, cornerback and safety.

Champion Gridiron Kings, part of the ESPN RISE Games, will take place July 23-24 at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World Resort.

Champion Gridiron Kings is one of four elite high school events featured in the ESPN RISE Games, a two-week event for elite and competitive level student-athletes, July 13-27.

Other events include Champion All-American Showcase; a US Lacrosse boys and girls event; the AAU 11th Grade Boys Basketball Super Showcase presented by Champion; and the Under Armour High School All-America Softball game.

Gleneagles Country Club To Host 2011 British Open Qualifier

Gleneagles Country Club will host, for the third consecutive year, the only International Final Qualifying (IFQ) event in America May 23.

The event, which will take place on the Queen’s Course, features a field of 78 players – including some of the best in the world – competing in over 36 holes during one day’s play for eight qualifying spots.

The IFQ event is open to the public and takes place on the Monday after the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial in Fort Worth and prior to the HP Byron Nelson Championship in Irving, allowing many of the top players to compete in the event between PGA Tour tournaments.

Players scheduled to compete in the event as of May 6 include Brandt Snedeker, Anthony Kim, Bill Haas, Aaron Baddeley, Rory Sabbatini, Ricky Barnes, Sergio Garcia, Stuart Appleby, and Heath Slocum.

The IFQ events, held by the R&A, the organization responsible for the world’s golf rules and the organizer of the British Open Championship, were started in 2004 and are held on five continents to give more players from around the world the opportunity to compete in the British Open Championship, one of golf’s four Majors. The 140th British Open is July 14-17, 2011, at Royal St George’s Golf Club in Sandwich, Kent, in England.
