All-Pro Linebacker for the New York Giants, Keith Bulluck will be honored with the Nicholas Scoppetta Child Welfare Award at the NYFC 2010 Fall Gala at in New York City on September 21st at Cipriani 42, announced New Yorkers For Children (NYFC). Past honorees include Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, Mary J. Blige, Geoffrey Canada and Russell Simmons.
NYFC will recognize Keith, a native New Yorker, for his longtime commitment and philanthropic efforts helping young people in foster care. At the age of 12, Keith was placed in foster care when his mother could no longer care for him. In 2003, he founded The Keith Bulluck Believe & Achieve Foundation to help youth in foster care in Tennessee and New York. Bulluck said, “Young people in foster care often assume they will be stuck with positions that don’t have much upside after they leave the foster care system. It doesn’t have to be that way. With a little focus, someone to bring you along and help you develop job skills, the possibilities are endless.”
The 2010 Fall Gala, presented by CIRCA, is NYFC’s annual fundraising event to assist young people in foster care in New York City. The Fall Gala Co-Chairs are Henry and Vanessa Cornell, Oscar de la Renta, Susan and Tony Gilroy, Tina and Peter Harf, Kevin and Erika Liles, and Shirin von Wulffen and Frederic Fekkai. Last year’s event raised $1.5 million to support youth in foster care.
NYFC is the non-profit organization that partners with the Administration for Children’s Services to improve the lives of children in foster care in New York City. Since 1996, NYFC has made a difference in the lives of these youth through college scholarships, tutoring programs, job training, and networking opportunities. There are currently over 16,000 children in foster care in New York City, and NYFC is committed to providing them with the essential tools to become successful, self-sufficient adults.
