Sci Fi Channel To Be Renamed As “Syfy”

March 21, 2009

Sci Fi Channel that specializes in science fiction, fantasy, horror, and paranormal programming launched in 1992 will be rebranded as “Syfy.” NBC Universal owned channel is expected to change into the new name from July 7th.
Syfy’s president, Dave Howe said “”Sci Fi” was too generic, and could not be trademarked. In a statement, Syfy’s brain trust said the rebranding campaign “seeks to distinguish the channel and its programming from cable competitors.”
